The demand for bus, trucks and heavy duty vehicles continues to enjoy strong demand with an incredible 32% growth in January 2016 over the same period in 2015. More impressive is the growth in Heavy Duty Vehicles which registered a 188% jump. This reflect the continued strength of the Philippines economy which grew at 6.9% in the 1st quarter of 2016 – the fastest in the region. This growth is spurred on by increased domestic consumption, trade and investments.
The Philippine automotive industry displayed a remarkable start for 2016 with an impressive 27.6% year-on-year growth over the January 2015 sales. The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) reported that the industry sold 23,808 units versus 18,662 units of the same month last year. Passenger cars posted nearly 20% increase from 7,200 units in January 2015 to 8,632 units last month. However, Commercial Vehicles sales grew by a massive 32% from 11,462 units to 15,176 units for the same period comparison.
